Panel 1: Building Marketing Competencies through Education and Training
As Programme Coordinator for the BPhil Honors in Marketing Management at IMM Graduate School, Ms. Claudine Botha participated in a panel entitled “Building Marketing Competencies through Education and Training.” She and her co-panellists explored why education is vital for producing marketers for Africa.
Ms. Botha’s reflection mentioned how she valued critical thinking as an essential aspect of marketing education. She pointed out that students should be trained on how to assess the environmental, competitive, and market aspects before making any strategic moves. Her thoughts on the dynamic nature of marketing also conveyed how important it is for the tutors to help the students think out of the box while tackling problems.
“It’s important for students to grasp that making informed, strategic decisions is complex. Education’s role is to expose students to a wider spectrum of knowledge, helping them make more comprehensive, informed decisions.”

Panel 2: Digital Gold Rush – How Africa is Redefining the Future of Digital
Dr. Elaine van Wyk, who holds the position of Group Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at the IMM Graduate School, was a participant in the “Digital Gold Rush: How Africa is Shaping the Digital Future” panel discussion. Elaine noted the significance of mobile technology in driving business growth and the need for MSMEs to harness digital platforms despite infrastructural challenges. Her call for innovation emphasised the importance of being agile and strategic in an increasingly digital world.
“Marketers need to be agile and able to adapt daily. We saw during COVID that companies who survived were agile and could reimagine themselves quickly.”
